BROWNS English Language School‘s Junior Holiday Program (Junior Camp) offers an unforgettable experience for young learners aged 12 to 17, combining English language lessons with a variety of activities and cultural experiences. Plus, with our homestay option, you will have the chance to immerse yourself in the local community and practice your language skills.
We were excited to welcome our first group of 2023 to the Gold Coast at the end of March. Keep reading to hear about their fun-filled week.
Day 1 – Orientation, Q1 SkyPoint Observation Deck, and Surfers Paradise beach visit.
The first day started with a brief orientation to Australian customs and then students began class with some “get to know you” activities.
After the break, students got on the tram to visit SkyPoint Observation Deck in the Q1 building. With mesmerizing and outstanding 360 views of the beach and hinterland, students were lucky enough to have clear blue skies to admire this stunning place. After, we went down for a quick stroll to Surfers Paradise beach and students enjoyed dipping their toes in the water.

Day 2 – Reptile visit on campus.
On the second day, the English classes were animal-oriented and students prepared a mini presentation about four Australian animals and learned about animal parts, which was very handy when our wildlife expert, Alec, came to visit us later that day. This reptile visit was like no other experience that students had had before, they were able to touch and hold different Australian animals, including snakes! Some students were quite into it, posing for that perfect Insta (Instagram) picture, and some were screaming but still brave enough to have a go and make the most out of their reptile visit on campus.
Day 3 – Bowling.
Day three started off by talking about students’ favourite sports, playing charades, and doing some exercise with a fun running dictation.
After the break, we headed into Strike Bowling in Surfers Paradise. Students had a blast and were in awe of the flashing lights and dark walls at Strike. Some Junior Camp students have had previous experience and helped each other. In total, there were three teams and we all cheered and clapped every time someone got a strike!
Day 4 – Outlet Shopping.
On our fourth day together, students were very comfortable greeting and using short phrases in English in the classroom. The topic was shopping, clothing, and accessories. Students role-played a shop assistant and a customer in front of the class.
At 12:30pm students went off to Harbour Town Premium Outlets (Shopping Centre) into groups of four and five. The first stop was the Information Centre to get some special guest discount cards and maps. At 2:30pm the Junior Camp students came back with their shopping bags and ear-to-ear smiles.
Day 5 – Graduation picnic in the park.
Last day in class and students were excited to try on some Australian staples. The topic was food and recipes, and the class was split into teams and each of them were assigned a specific task. Students got hands-on making their own pavlovas, pies, and lamingtons to name a few. The campus’ kitchen was bustling with the students in their red BROWNS polo shirts, prepping the picnic graduation food and learning English at the same time. After getting everything ready, the Junior Camp and High School Preparation (HSP) students walked to the Broadwater Parklands and together celebrated a fantastic and unforgettable week. Students shared some food and interviewed the HSP students.
Day 6 – Dreamworld.
The Junior Camp students finished with a cracking last day at Dreamworld Theme Park. The students were looking forward to this day for the whole week. What they weren’t expecting was that the theme park had very low attendees on the day, and they were able to loop through the same ride even 5 times!! The Taipan and The Claw were their favourite rides. Some students even skipped lunch just so they could go on another ride one more time!
