My Experience in Australia and the Connections I Made

“I had my first overseas experience through a short-term, two-week program in Australia. I attended a school called BROWNS, where I had the amazing opportunity to learn English while meeting people from all over the world.
Since I had never spoken to people from other countries before, I was very nervous at first. However, through group activities during class, I gradually expanded my circle of friends. After class, I would ask classmates from other countries, “Do you want to go to a café together?” On weekends, we visited Melbourne’s tourist spots, and I actively enjoyed spending time with them. We especially bonded over conversations about our native languages and cultures. The teachers at BROWNS were also incredibly friendly and always patiently supported me, which made it easier for me to relax and enjoy learning English.
I became particularly close with my classmates from Taiwan. Even after returning to Japan, we stayed connected through social media. During my winter vacation, I finally fulfilled my dream of visiting Taiwan and reuniting with them. They showed me around famous places like Taipei’s night markets and Jiufen, and I had the chance to enjoy delicious local food.
This valuable experience of strengthening the friendships I built in Australia while visiting another country made me realise that studying abroad is not just about learning a language—it’s also about creating meaningful, lifelong connections.
Looking back, I feel truly grateful that I chose BROWNS for my study abroad experience. I deeply appreciate all the lessons I learned and the wonderful people I met there.”
