School Holiday Programs

Hello and welcome to BROWNS‘ School Holiday Programs recap! The first week of our January-February 2025 Junior Holiday and Primary Holiday Program was jam-packed with learning, speaking, games and all-round fun! Our topics for this week were Melbourne, our countries, and hobbies and activities. We have learned new vocabulary and practised it by making posters, recipes and presentations for the class. We had a great time in our afternoons, where we explored lots of places in Melbourne, tested our knowledge, and honed our baking skills!

We have all gotten to know each other, worked together and created a warm, happy, and safe learning environment where we can have fun and learn at the same time.

Monday, 13th January 2025:
Our first day at BROWNS! We introduced ourselves and got to know a little bit about each other through playing games and answering questions. We told each other about the different countries we come from, the languages we speak, and some of the things we enjoy doing. Afterwards, we learned about the country we’re in now!

After lunch, we played a game of trivia! We tested our knowledge on a range of topics to see who could answer the most questions!

Tuesday, 14th January 2025:
Today, our topic was ‘My Town’. After speaking about our countries yesterday, today we spoke in greater detail about the towns we are all from. We learned vocabulary related to towns and cities and talked about our favourite places in our hometowns.

In the afternoon, we explored Melbourne and went to the Archie Brothers Arcade. There were so many different games, and we had fun playing them all!

Wednesday, 15th January 2025:
Wednesday’s topic was cooking! We shared with the class some of our favourite foods and talked about what we cook and how frequently. We learned vocabulary to describe different cooking methods and practised with games and worksheets. We also learned about recipes and how to write a good one! After some practice, we wrote our own recipes and decided who should be the cook!

After lunch, we did some baking ourselves! We made mug cakes in the school kitchen. They all smelled and tasted delicious!

Thursday, 16th January 2025:
After baking yesterday, on Thursday, we talked about other free-time hobbies and activities. We explained to each other how we like to spend our time and discussed what we would like to do more of in the future. We studied some vocabulary to explain our different preferences. We then made posters for the classroom about ourselves and our hobbies.

In the afternoon, we went to one of Melbourne’s famous art galleries, the ACMI! We had a great time at the art exhibition, which was all about images, film and light. We watched old movies and new technology. Afterwards, we went to Hosier Lane to look at the street art.

Friday, 17th January 2025:
Today, our topic was graffiti! We started our day by exploring different types of artwork and assessing how graffiti fits into the world of art. We learned about the history of graffiti, looked at some of the most famous graffiti artists (like Banksy), and learned about different vocabulary related to the world of graffiti. We even shared some of our favourite pictures of the graffiti in Melbourne that we had visited on Hosier Lane yesterday! The highlight of the day was creating our own art.

After lunch, we headed out to the park, where we played badminton, Uno and archery, and enjoyed the Australian sunshine. We even saw a sleeping possum in the tree!

Saturday, 18th January 2025:
Our weekend trip was an underwater adventure to SEA LIFE! We put our sunscreen on, got our maps of the aquarium ready, and went to explore the wonderful sea animals! We saw a real shark, which was even bigger than we imagined it would be! We watched the colourful fish swimming in the tanks, and we saw the penguins playing! We had our lunch in the park next to the aquarium before returning to school to play some games.

We have had a great week together this week. We have learned all about each other and where we come from, what we like to do, and where we would like to go. In our School Holiday Programs, students have learned about Melbourne and Australia and have explored the city together! From learning vocabulary to practising speaking and even doing our own art, we have had a great time. We have made some great memories together, both in the classroom and from our trips and activities… we can’t wait to welcome you back next week to have even more fun at BROWNS!
