Week 2 of our Brisbane Junior Holiday Program was filled with exciting activities and engaging English lessons. From enhancing English skills through vocabulary games to exploring Australian culture, the students had a blast while making new friends and discovering more about life in Australia. Whether it was learning about beach safety, or diving into the world of Australian wildlife, each day was packed with fun and education. Here’s a look at some of the highlights from this action-packed week of Junior Study Abroad learning.
Monday, 20th January 2025:
This Monday the new students were able to introduce themselves to their classmates. They learned about free time and hobbies; we could talk about lifestyles and compare their hobbies. Students asked questions to each other, and we had a competition related to vocabulary learning; they practiced their vocabulary by playing games.
In the afternoon we played board games where students could practice their speaking. The tables were divided into three groups and each group played a different board or card game. During the games, the students had fun and listened to music.
Tuesday, 21st January 2025:
Today students learned about an important part about Australian culture, the beach, we practiced their knowledge related to beach and beach safety. Students could share with the class what it is like in their countries, if they usually go to the beach or if they have any favourite activities to do at the beach. We reviewed Grammar with prepositions related to place and movement. In the second part of the class, we learned about sea animals and practiced with Australian songs for kids.
The afternoon was very fun, we walked to Strike Bowling and students could play during the afternoon and compete among themselves. All students had fun, and they could enjoy this time with their classmates.
Wednesday, 22nd January 2025:
On Wednesday, students had the opportunity to learn and practice vocabulary related to films and series. We began by discussing movies and their favourite films. We also played a movie soundtrack guessing game, where students had fun trying to identify the films based on the music. Later, they conducted a survey, asking the class about their favourite films and series.
In the afternoon, the students watched a film while enjoying popcorn. Everyone had a great time and was excited to watch a movie that the entire group enjoyed.
Thursday, 23rd January 2025:
Today, students had the chance to talk about and learn vocabulary related to their holidays. Thursday was dedicated to practicing vocabulary connected to leisure and holidays, with various activities and exercises aimed at enhancing the students’ skills.
In the afternoon, we had a fun glow painting session, allowing students to unleash their creativity and imagination through an artistic activity that involved their painting skills. At the end, they were able to take home their completed canvas.
Friday, 24th January 2025:
Friday was a lot of fun, and we learned some great Aussie vocabulary related to Australian animals. Everyone talked about a different animal, and we explored their sounds and interesting facts, including those about the largest marsupial in the world and the iconic Australian symbol: the kangaroo. Students had the chance to learn more about these animals and their unique sounds.
In the afternoon, we took a bus to the City Botanic Gardens, where we enjoyed playing outdoor games. After an hour of fun, we returned to school to continue our animal discussions and talked about Australia Day (January 26th).
Saturday, 25th January 2025:
Saturday was a fantastic day spent at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. We had the chance to see a variety of animals and enjoy the day together. Students were able to learn more about the animals and observe them up close. They gained a deeper understanding of Australia’s natural richness and its unique biodiversity. The main goal was to help them realize the importance of protecting the environment to preserve the diversity of species and maintain the natural balance.
What a fantastic week it’s been, and we’re so excited to continue the fun next week. With more adventures, lessons, and fun on the horizon, we can’t wait to share all the amazing experiences.
