Primary Holiday Program Melbourne

Hello and welcome to week 3 of BROWNS’ Junior Holiday Program & Primary Holiday Program Melbourne recap! This week has been full of exciting trips, interesting topics and a lot of learning! We practiced our writing, listening and speaking skills through worksheets, presentations and games! We have also learnt more about technology, money and much, much more. We have refined our painting skills, engaged our competitive sides whilst bowling, and got involved in art at ArtVo

We’ve had a great week working together and making memories! We have enjoyed meeting more new students and have worked collectively to ensure that we’re learning every day and enjoying our time at BROWNS and in Melbourne!

Tuesday, 28th January 2025:
We started our week by welcoming some new faces to class! We all introduced ourselves and made our new students feel welcome! We then started our week off by learning about money. We began by thinking of as many currencies as we could. We learnt some new vocab to do with money and then practiced our problem-solving skills with some money related problems. We then got imaginative and designed a poster about what we would do with $4000! We explained where we would go, what we would buy and who we would get gifts for! We then practiced our critical reviewing skills and decided whose plan we liked the best and why. We had a great day learning about money from different countries, new vocabulary and explaining our decisions.

In the afternoon, we went bowling! We got into four teams and went head-to-head to see who the ultimate bowler was! The pins were falling, the crowds were cheering, and our winners were scoring amazing scores!

Wednesday, 29th January 2025:
Wednesday was all about games. We started our day by thinking of a list of A-Z games, we had some great answers. We then practiced our listening skills and learnt new vocabulary related to games such as ‘aim’, ‘tie’ and ‘strategy’. We even learnt about modal verbs and practiced these together. After this, we honed our reading and explaining skills. We read the rules for a new game and explained the rules to our partners. To see if had understood we played the games! We had a great time practicing explanations and we even reviewed all the grammar we’ve learnt with a grammar-inspired Monopoly game!

After lunch, we channeled our creativity through painting. Before we started, we researched three different paintings. We explained to our table why we liked the painting and who the artist was. Taking inspiration from a range of different artists we started our own paintings! We created some masterpieces which we then proudly presented to each other!

Thursday, 30th January 2025:
Thursday’s topic was technology. We began with a game of hot seat to practice our skills at describing. After this we learnt about specific verbs and nouns related to technology. We practiced this vocab through discussions about our own uses of technology, a variety of worksheets and even a game of vocab dominos! We then focused on the features of reviews. We analysed a review and then wrote our own. We picked an app which we used frequently and wrote about the advantages and disadvantages of the app and summarised our views on the app! We learnt a lot today and had great fun doing so!

In the afternoon we went to ArtVo and immersive art experience. We wandered through the galleries and were able to be part of the paintings! It was great fun, and we took loads of pictures and made even more memories together!

Friday, 31st February 2025:
Today our topic was shopping! We discussed how, when and where we shopped and learnt a lot about each other’s shopping habits. We practiced our speaking skills by role-playing customers and shop assistants! This was great practice for our time in Melbourne! After this we designed our very own shop! We were each given a different type of shop (such as a pharmacy, bakery or clothes shop) and designed a poster displaying what was in the shop, the prices and most importantly the discounts! We then practiced our speaking, maths and money skills by deciding what and why we wanted to buy! We learnt a lot from listening to each other’s ideas.

After lunch we grabbed our picnic blankets, snacks and games and made our way to Flagstaff Gardens. The sun was shining making it the perfect weather for an Australian picnic! We enjoyed spending time with each other and learning new games from different countries!

Saturday, 1st February 2025:
This Saturday our trip was to Scienceworks! We had a great day trying out all the different experiments and machines whilst also learning about lots of different areas of science that make up our world! A highlight was the sports exhibition where we raced each other to see who was the fastest, we went rock climbing to see who could get the highest and we even when a simulation to pretend we were snowboarding! It was a great end to the week, and we all had fun playing, learning and making memories together!

We had a great third week in the Junior and Primary Holiday Program Melbourne! We got to make more friends, learn about some interesting topics and explore some more of what Melbourne has to offer. From learning new vocabulary to practicing our speaking and listening skills and even writing reviews we have had an educational and entertaining week. We have been on some fascinating and fun trips and have channelled our creative skills in all manner of ways! We’ve made some lasting memories, and we can’t wait to make more next week!
