English school with science

Last week at BROWNS, our Junior Holiday Program brought learning to life by combining language development with hands-on discovery. As an English school with science activities, we engaged students in interactive lessons, exciting excursions, and fun experiments that made learning both educational and entertaining. From exploring weather vocabulary to visiting the Queensland Museum’s SparkLab, students practiced their English while diving into the world of science.

Tuesday, 28th January 2025:
Tuesday started feeling like Monday, after the public holiday we started the day talking about Australia Day and how they spent their day off. Our topic of the day was “my country” so students could explore and talk about their countries.

Students did interactive and speaking activities to talk about their hometowns. At the end they drew their country’s map and wrote about their cultural traditions.

In the afternoon we went to South Bank where the Wheel of Brisbane is located, we could see one of the most famous landmarks of Brisbane. After the ride, we had ice cream and sweets, and then we went back to school.

Wednesday, 29th January 2025:
This Wednesday we talked about Life Experiences, and we revised the vocabulary related to favourite activities and leisure activities. After that, we talked about grammar: Present Perfect and the use of Since and For. At the end, we did an activity related to life experience where students had to run and tap yes on the board if they had done what the teacher said.

The Wednesday afternoon was dedicated to playing games and having fun in the classroom. We had a competition, and students could play in teams. After we played turn-up cups and a mystery game. We had a lot of fun together and we enjoyed the time spent together.

Thursday 30/01/25
On Thursday students learned about different words describing the weather and how to give a weather forecast about their own country. Students then went to the Queensland Museum to view their science exhibition ‘SparkLab’.

There, students witnessed a Tesla Coil perform some Vivaldi, Jurassic Park and even Super Mario music for us. It was very loud, but students were absolutely enthralled.

There were various interesting science displays for students to view and interact with, such as a coloured shadow light display, a cloud ring maker display and a shape maker.

Students also thoroughly enjoyed the Animals of Queensland exhibit, where they viewed various taxidermies of various animals native to Queensland, such as dingoes, butterflies and the Southern cassowary.

Friday 31/01/25
Students learned about expressing different hobbies and making plans to do these different hobbies with friends. Students then went to the Botanical Gardens for a scavenger hunt. We scurried with great excitement to find various important features of the garden such as the Bamboo Grove, the Palm Avenue, Weeping Fig and a Lilypad Pond.

Saturday, 1st February 2025:
This Saturday our excursion was to one of the most famous amusements parks of Australia, the Warner Bros. Movie World. We had a lot of fun going to many rides and scenic places that brought us to Warner films. This unique experience made students have fun with their friends and spend their day together.

This special week made students learn and practice their English being more confident and being closer to their classmates. We welcome you back next week to read about our Week 4 adventures.
