What is the English + Demi Pair Program?
A Demi Pair is a part-time, live-in helper who supports a local family with childcare and light household duties (up to 15 hours per week), in exchange for:
🛏️ 12 weeks free accommodation in a private room
🥘 Two meals Monday to Friday and three meals on weekends
🦘 A unique cultural experience
This arrangement allows students to reduce their living expenses while practising English every day in real-life situations.
Demi Pair vs. Au Pair – What’s the Difference?
You may be familiar with the term “Au Pair.” The Demi Pair concept is similar, but with one key difference:
Au Pair: Usually a full-time live-in helper.
Demi Pair: Part-time support (maximum 15 hours per week) usually while studying English.

Who Can Apply?
The English + Demi Pair program is ideal for international students who:
◼️ Are aged 18+
◼️ Have an intermediate level of English (take our free online English test) and enrol in a BROWNS program for at least eight weeks.
◼️ Enjoy working with children and are eligible to obtain a Blue Card (QLD) or Working With Children Check (VIC) before commencing with the family
Many of our Demi Pair students go on to form strong bonds with their host families and often say it’s one of the most rewarding parts of their time in Australia.
A Typical Week as a Demi Pair:
◼️ Help with morning and/or evening routines
◼️Light household tasks such as tidying or preparing meals
◼️ Enjoy the rest of the day studying at BROWNS and exploring the city
◼️ Spend your weekends exploring Australia, relaxing at the beach, and making new friends.
