Ian Potter Centre and More: Week 5 of JHP in Melbourne
This week marks the beginning of another exciting Junior Holiday Program at BROWNS English Language School in Melbourne!
Monday – 11/08/2025
The students settled in with orientation and their first English lessons. The focus was on vocabulary and speaking, where the students practiced socialising and making plans.
Tuesday – 12/08/2025
On Tuesday, our English lessons focused on listening skills while learning about daily routines. The students practiced understanding different accents and listening for key information and we compared different daily routines with our classmates. Later in the day, we visited the Ian Potter Centre (NGV Australia) and Federation Square. It was a great opportunity for students to appreciate Australian art and culture while also sharing their own perspectives with their classmates and we completed a scavenger hunt challenge all around federation square

Wednesday’s theme was sports, and the English lessons concentrated on vocabulary and speaking. The students learned useful expressions to talk about their favourite sports and activities and talked all about extreme sports – we were surprised how brave our class was. In the afternoon, they took part in SnapQuest, a fun activity where students worked in teams to complete creative challenges and take photos around the city. We recreated some dance challenges and had fun creating videos with our group
Thursday – 14/08/2025
On Thursday, the students focused on writing. The theme was holidays, and everyone practiced writing postcards in English, which we can send home to tell our friends all about BROWNS camp. In the afternoon, it was time for some action at Laser Tag! The students loved the fast-paced games and enjoyed strategising in teams – our teacher came second overall – we were suprised how good she was!
Friday – 15/08/2025
Friday’s lessons centered on speaking with the theme of life experiences. The students shared memorable moments from their lives and practiced asking and answering questions. To celebrate the end of the week, we had a Class Party in the afternoon. We all enjoyed games, music, and lots of laughter as they reflected on everything they had learned and experienced during the week and created memory pages for each other so we can never forget the time we spent together
Saturday – 16/08/2025
Saturday was a highlight for many – a full-day excursion to LEGOLAND! The group headed to Chadstone for a day full of creativity and fun. The students built, explored, and enjoyed the many attractions LEGOLAND had to offer and had a go at building some . It was a perfect way to end the week’s program, combining learning, teamwork, and adventure.
This brings us to the end of another memorable week of the BROWNS Junior Holiday Program in Melbourne. Our students not only improved their English skills through engaging lessons but also discovered new places, enjoyed exciting activities, and created friendships and memories to last a lifetime. We look forward to welcoming the next group of students to continue this journey of learning, fun, and cultural discovery.
