Learning, Performing, and Creating Together
Week 3 in the PSP and PSP+ programs was all about performance, creativity, and teamwork. Students practised English through drama, science, literacy, and hands-on projects, building confidence while expressing themselves in new and exciting ways. Here’s a snapshot of our week:
🎭 Tuesday: Performance & Discovery
We welcomed new students with introductions and name-tag making, helping everyone get to know each other while practising speaking and listening skills. The week’s theme — performance and theatre — was introduced, along with key vocabulary.
In PE, students warmed up, followed instructions in English, and worked as a team through throw-and-catch games and musical chairs.
In Science, the focus was on shadows. Students discussed what shadows are and how they are made, explored examples around the classroom, and learned how shadows can be used to tell the time. They finished the lesson by creating shadow puppets, combining science with creativity.
During Reading and Literacy, students worked with vocabulary warmers and read independently and aloud. They also explored storytelling through a “Make a Movie” activity — talking about favourite movies, matching images with sentences, creating storyboards, and designing posters for their own films.
🧵 Wednesday: Puppets, History & Phonics
Wednesday began with vocabulary warmers and continued with reading and listening activities, focusing on past progressive statements. Higher-level students extended their learning through reading and writing tasks.
In Art, students explored puppets. They watched a puppet show, learned collaging techniques, and created their own puppets. Some students extended the activity by writing short scripts for their puppet performances.
In HASS, students learned about the history of school, engaging in discussions and completing a Venn diagram to compare schools in the past and present.
Phonics focused on the ‘th’ sound, with speaking practice and word identification. Activities were differentiated by level, including picture worksheets, crosswords, and creative writing.
The day finished with a Fashion Show activity, where students worked in teams to design clothing from cardboard and recycled materials, proudly showing off their creations on the runway.
🎬 Thursday: Stories, Grammar & Sea Life
Thursday began with a vocabulary recap quiz and the introduction of new vocabulary. Students worked on reading, listening, and past progressive questions, with extension worksheets for higher levels.
In preparation for an upcoming aquarium visit, students explored ocean animals, sharing what they already knew and watching a documentary with guided questions.
In Writing, students retold Little Red Riding Hood using picture prompts. Extensions included writing a journal entry about a performance they had seen.
Speaking and listening activities focused on story comprehension and explanation, preparing students for their excursion to SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium, where they explored marine life and connected their classroom learning to a real-world experience.
🎤 Friday: Speaking, Performing & Exploring Melbourne
Friday began with a spelling test and a listening activity about hobbies. Students prepared and delivered short presentations about their own hobbies, while lower-level students focused on hobby vocabulary and there is / there are grammar.
During Outdoor Play, students played park games using English, reinforcing language through movement and teamwork.
Students then worked together to rewrite Little Red Riding Hood, comparing versions with a partner and performing a finger puppet show, bringing storytelling and performance together.
The week concluded with an exciting visit to Queen Victoria Market, giving students the opportunity to experience Melbourne culture while using English in a real-world setting.
✅ That’s a wrap on Week 3!
Week 3 was packed with creativity, collaboration, and confident English use. Through performance, storytelling, science, and exploration, students continued to develop their language skills while having fun and expressing themselves in meaningful ways. We’re so proud of their enthusiasm and teamwork! 🌟
