Food, Fun, and Fantastic Learning!
Week 5 in the PSP and PSP+ programs was all about food, healthy living, and creativity. Students explored English through nutrition, storytelling, art, and delicious hands-on activities, building confidence while learning in dynamic and engaging ways. Here’s a snapshot of our week:
🍎 Monday: Welcome & Introduction to Food
We welcomed new students with introductions and worked together to create new school rules and posters, helping everyone feel part of the community while practising speaking and communication skills. The week’s theme — food — was introduced, setting the stage for an exciting week of discovery.
In Indoor Play, students enjoyed English games to practice names, speaking, memory, and confidence in a fun, relaxed environment.
In Maths, students explored pie charts through presentations and worksheets, then conducted a class survey — connecting data collection with real-world applications.
The day concluded with Writing, where students practised composing emails, developing their written communication skills.
🥗 Tuesday: Healthy Eating & Active Play
Tuesday began with vocabulary introduction focusing on healthy food, followed by Bamboozle and textbook work (pages 74-77), building on the food theme. Students engaged with new words and concepts related to nutrition and healthy living.
In PE, students warmed up, followed instructions in English, and worked as a team through throw-and-catch games and musical chairs, reinforcing language through active play.
In Science, the topic of healthy eating took centre stage. Students watched presentations, completed worksheets, and got creative by designing their own perfect dinner — combining nutrition knowledge with imaginative planning.
In Reading and Literacy, students worked with vocabulary warmers and explored Unit 6 of their literacy book, with Story 1 in class and Story 2 assigned as homework for PSP+ students.
🥕 Wednesday: Vegetable Characters & Chocolate History
Wednesday began with the Unit 6 song, followed by language book activities (pages 78-81), helping students build grammar and vocabulary skills.
In Art, students got creative by building their own vegetable characters! Extension students wrote descriptions of their characters using gerunds and adjectives, combining crafts with language practice.
In HASS, students learned about the fascinating history of chocolate. They watched a presentation and video, then participated in a team quiz focusing on key words, gist, and inference — developing both comprehension and teamwork skills.
The day concluded with Phonics, where students practiced the ‘fr’ sound through bingo games and board games, making learning interactive and fun.
📖 Thursday: Recipes & Wombat Stew
Thursday began with the Unit 6 song and vocabulary practice using Wordwall, followed by more language book work (pages 82-83) to reinforce grammar and reading skills.
In Writing, students explored recipe writing using templates, learning the structure and language of instructional texts.
The highlight of the day was Speaking and Listening with “Wombat Stew”! Students engaged with this classic Australian story through presentations and participated in a recipe craft activity, bringing the story to life through hands-on creativity and oral communication.
🍫 Friday: Testing, Games & Chocolate Spiders!
