Gold Coast High School Pathway Student Story
During his time at BROWNS, Quang Vinh (Jack) has progressed from HSP1 to HSP3 (High School Preparation). He plans to study at Upper Coomera State High School after his time with us. Jack’s family can be very proud of his progress. Despite all the hardships of immersing into a new culture, Jack has persevered with a positive attitude towards his studies. He is a model student that others can look up to.
We spoke to Jack about his experience in the BROWNS High School Preparation program.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE FOR YOU IN HSP?
“Speaking is definitely the hardest challenge for me. Pronunciation is also very difficult. In Vietnam, there was no one to practice speaking English with. I need to practice a lot before coming to Australia.”
“In class, there are students from China, Brazil, Japan and Korea. It makes it easier to speak English with other students.”
WHAT CAN STUDENTS DO TO OVERCOME THIS CHALLENGE?
“Students need to ask questions. They have to be brave enough to raise their hand and ask the teacher to explain something again or explain slowly. They can also ask their friends for more information. It is important to ask for help.”
Successful completion of the High School Preparation program is recognised for direct entry into 125+ Independent, Catholic and Government schools in Queensland.
