Gold Coast Holiday English

Gold Coast Holiday English Course for Juniors (JHP)

Welcome to the recap of the Gold Coast’s exciting week 3 of the Junior Holiday Program (JHP) in July at BROWNS English Language School. We are looking forward to a fantastic week that will make the memories and friendships last a lifetime.

Monday, 14 July 2025:

The week kicked off with creativity and confidence!
In the morning, students became filmmakers, learning how to plan, film, and star in their very own mini-documentaries. Working in small groups, they interviewed each other, wrote short scripts, and practised using expressive English on camera. It was a great way to practise speaking and listening while having loads of fun.

In the  afternoon, we turned up the excitement with a magic workshop. Students learned how to perform simple but impressive magic tricks using everyday items. After some practice (and plenty of giggles), they put on a magical show for their classmates. The joy and pride on their faces said it all — it was a truly spellbinding afternoon!

Tuesday, 15 July 2025:

Tuesday began with an engaging and interactive lesson on hobbies and free time. Students learned useful vocabulary to talk about their favourite pastimes and shared their own interests with their classmates.

In the afternoon, it was time to hit the lanes! We went bowling, and the excitement was palpable— cheering for each other, and celebrating strikes (and the occasional gutter ball!). For many, it was their first time bowling, and the energy was unforgettable.

Wednesday, 16 July 2025:

The day began with a fun and engaging lesson all about clothes and fashion. Students learned vocabulary for different types of clothing, patterns, and accessories, and practiced describing outfits in detail.

In the afternoon, the school transformed into a runway! Students participated in a fashion show where they modelled outfits they had created using recycled materials. The creativity on display was incredible — from newspaper dresses to bows made from crepe paper and tape. The event ended with prizes for the most original and well-presented looks,, and plenty of photos to remember the moment.

Thursday, 17 July 2025:

Thursday’s theme was sports. In the morning, students learned key vocabulary and phrases to talk about different sports and physical activities. They then worked in groups to invent their own original sports, complete with rules, team roles, and equipment. Each group presented their new game to the class — some ideas were so clever they could catch on in real life.

In the afternoon, students headed to YJ Dance School, a local K-Pop and dance studio, where they were taught achoreographed dance routine. With guidance from a professional instructor, they learned the steps, practiced in groups, and then performed the full routine together. It was a high-energy afternoon that ended with lots of smiles and applause.

Friday, 18 July 2025:

Friday morning’s topic was transport, with students learning vocabulary and sentence structures to describe different methods of getting around — from trams and trains to bicycles and ferries.

In the afternoon, students took part in a photo scavenger hunt at Southport Broadwater Parklands. Armed with a list and a phone camera, they explored the area in teams to capture pictures of specific landmarks, actions, and objects. It was a great way to apply their English in real-world situations while enjoying some fresh air and teamwork.

Saturday, 19 July 2025:

On Saturday, students spent the entire day at Movie World theme park — a major highlight of the week. They explored the rides, met movie characters, and enjoyed live shows and attractions. It was a fantastic day out that gave everyone a chance to relax, have fun, and bond as a group before the week wrapped up.

This week has been packed with hands-on learning, creative projects, and memorable experiences. From documentary-making to fashion shows, K-pop dance performances to scavenger hunts, our students not only improved their English skills but also built confidence, made new friends, and created lasting memories. We’re proud of everything they achieved this week — and we’re already excited for what’s coming next week
