Exciting Activities in Brisbane for Kids: Junior Holiday Program Highlights
Welcome to Week 1 of the Junior Holiday Program at BROWNS Brisbane. It was a week full of discovery, energy, and English learning, as students from around the world came together to explore Australian culture and improve their language skills. Through interactive lessons and exciting excursions, students experienced what makes BROWNS such a special place to learn. Let’s take a look at the highlights!
Monday, July 14 – Orientation & Aussie Olympics
Our first day kicked off with a warm welcome and orientation. Students were introduced to the Brisbane campus, met their teachers and classmates. They also created colourful “About Me” posters. The morning lessons also included an introduction to Australian geography, giving students their first glimpse into the country they’ll call home during the program.
In the afternoon, the Aussie Olympics brought out the team spirit. Students took part in friendly games inspired by traditional Australian sports, using English to follow instructions, cheer for teammates, and learn new cultural expressions. It was the perfect mix of language, culture, and fun to launch an exciting week of learning.
Tuesday, July 15 – In the classroom and Dance Class
In class, students focused on everyday English used inside the classroom. They practiced vocabulary for school supplies, learned how to follow teacher instructions in English, and even played games to reinforce phrases like “Can I borrow…” and “Please open your book.” It was a great way to help students feel more confident in navigating their English lessons during the program. During the afternoon, they engaged in an energetic professional dance class: by following instructions in English, they picked up new verbs and expressions while having fun with rhythm and coordination.
Wednesday, July 16 – “My Family”
Wednesday’s lessons centered around personal identity. Students practiced talking about their families using possessive forms (“my sister,” “his dad”) and built their confidence in speaking through pair work and group activities.
In the afternoon they tapped into their creativity with a mural art activity. Working together, they discussed colours, ideas, and artistic choices in English, producing vibrant artworks that reflected their teamwork and communication.
Thursday, July 17 – Music, Arts & Hijinx Hotel
Thursday’s classroom focus was all about music and the arts. Building on the mural project from the previous day, students expanded their artistic vocabulary and explored musical terms, including instruments, styles, and action verbs like play, sing, and listen. These creative lessons encouraged students to express themselves and discuss their artistic interests while continuing to develop their English communication skills.
In the afternoon, students visited the imaginative Hijinx Hotel, where each room offered a new game or challenge. To succeed, they had to listen carefully to instructions in English, work as a team, and think quickly — all while having a blast. It was a perfect combination of learning, listening practice, and laughter in a real-world setting.
Friday, July 18 – Sports Vocabulary & Park Activities
Friday’s theme was all about sports and physical activity. Students learned common verbs and phrases like play soccer, go swimming, and do yoga, along with equipment and game-related vocabulary.
They then put their skills into action with an outdoor sports session at a local Brisbane park. Whether playing volleyball, football, or simply enjoying the sunshine, students practiced English naturally through movement and play — just like local Aussie kids!
Saturday, July 19 – Dreamworld
To wrap up the week, students spent Saturday at Dreamworld, one of Australia’s top theme parks. They experienced thrilling rides, watched entertaining shows, and even saw native Australian animals. It was a day full of fun and language in action — reading signs, ordering food, and sharing stories with friends, all in English. An unforgettable experience to end an amazing week!
Week 1 in Brisbane was a perfect start to the Junior Holiday Program. Students built their English skills inside and outside the classroom, made new friends, and experienced Australian culture in fun and meaningful ways.
