Junior English Adventures: Language Learning Through Experience (Melbourne, Australia)

Monday, 14 July 2025:

We kicked off the week by diving into our first topic: My Country! With new faces in the classroom, we began by introducing ourselves and sharing where we’re from. It was such a great way to learn more about each other and celebrate the diversity in our class. We explored different countries, cultures, and customs—and learned more about Australia too.

To test our teamwork and problem-solving, we tackled not one, not two, but three class escape room challenges. Some teams cracked the codes with ease, while others faced some tricky puzzles—but all students gave it their best shot and showed fantastic collaboration. It was a fun and engaging way to start the week.

Tuesday, 15 July 2025:

Today’s theme was My Town. In class, we learned how to describe our hometowns, talked about important places, and practiced giving directions. We compared life in different towns and cities around the world and got to know each other’s daily lives a bit better.

In the afternoon, we explored Melbourne in a whole new way! First, we put on VR headsets and took a virtual tour of some of the world’s most famous cities. Then it was time to see the real thing—from above. We headed to the Melbourne Sky Deck, where we had breathtaking views of the city skyline. What an unforgettable experience.

Wednesday, 16 July 2025:

We spent the morning becoming Melbourne Tourism Experts. After learning about the city’s most iconic attractions, each student created a brochure to highlight what makes Melbourne so special. We practiced writing and design skills while exploring landmarks like the Royal Botanic Gardens, Luna Park, and the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground).

Next, we used our creativity to make a giant class mural filled with Melbourne-themed designs. There were trams, coffee cups, and even a kangaroo riding a surfboard—which the judges voted as the winning artwork. We loved seeing everyone’s imagination come to life and our collaboration was the best.

Thursday, 17 July 2025:

Our theme today was Hobbies and Free Time. We kicked things off by sharing our favourite activities and learning new vocabulary to talk about them. The class even got to invent their own games, which we then tested out together! It was a fun, interactive way to build confidence and creativity.

Later, we headed out for a fun-filled afternoon of bowling. There were some impressive strikes and lots of laughter as we competed in teams and cheered each other on. It was a fantastic way to unwind and bond.

Friday, 18 July 2025:

We ended the school week with a creative and thought-provoking topic: Graffiti – Art or Vandalism? Students debated both sides, practicing persuasive speaking and listening skills. Then we got hands-on and created our own artwork, experimenting with colours, fonts, and designs.

In the afternoon, we took to Hosier Lane, Melbourne’s most famous graffiti alley, for a photo challenge! Each student captured their favourite artwork and explained why it stood out. To finish the day, we visited ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image), where we explored Australia’s film and digital culture.

Saturday, 19 July 2025:

For our weekend activity, we visited SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium. We were amazed by the colourful coral reefs, sharks, turtles, and penguins. Students chose one animal to research and created a mini-project to present back at school. From jellyfish facts to crocodile diagrams, the final results were fantastic.

We had another exciting and enriching week at BROWNS English Language School. This week was filled with new discoveries, exciting excursions, and lots of teamwork. From sky-high views to street art tours, our students explored what Melbourne has to offer while developing their language skills in fun and meaningful ways. We can’t wait to see what next week brings!
