Study and explore Melbourne with PSP+
Week 3 of the Primary School Preparation + Activities Program (PSP+) was packed with creativity, games, real-life learning, and plenty of Melbourne magic. Here’s a recap of the fun and engaging week our students had:
🎬 Monday, 28th July 2025: Make a Movie Challenge
Class topic: Music, Listening & Speaking
Our students got creative today with our ‘Make a Movie Challenge’! After learning music-related vocabulary and practicing listening and speaking skills, the class dove into creating their own animated movie reels using paper, drawings, and craft materials. Each student crafted characters and scenes, then used stop-motion-style techniques to bring their short stories to life. It was a great way to combine artistic flair with English practice — and the results were so much fun to watch!
🕹️ Tuesday, 29th July 2025: Arcade Adventure
Class topic: Money, Listening & Reading
Today was all about money and fun! After learning vocabulary and reading/listening strategies around the theme of money, students were off to the Arcade at Crown Melbourne. There, they practiced teamwork and friendly competition as they challenged each other on classic arcade machines. Whether it was air hockey, racing games, or claw machines, students had a blast while subconsciously reinforcing numeracy and vocabulary related to coins, scores, and transactions.
🏗️ Wednesday, 30th July 2025: Minute to Win It
Class topic: Games, Speaking
The classroom turned into a game show studio today as students took on the ‘Minute to Win It’ challenge! Students worked in teams and used their speaking skills to plan, strategise, and cheer each other on in 60-second challenges. From building the tallest towers using only paper, pasta, and blu-tac to tricky balancing games, it was a fantastic mix of critical thinking, teamwork, and English-speaking practice.
🖼️ Thursday, 31st July 2025: NGV Mimic Challenge
Class topic: Technology & Writing
Art met English learning today at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). After a morning of writing and vocabulary around technology and creativity, students visited the gallery where they completed the ‘Mimic Challenge’ — choosing their favourite artworks or statues and mimicking them with dramatic poses and storytelling. They even wrote short descriptions and captions for their recreated artwork, combining fun physical activity with vocabulary and writing skills.
🛍️ Friday, 1st August 2025: Queen Victoria Market Adventure
Class topic: Shopping, Vocabulary & Speaking
Today’s class was all about shopping and using English in the real world. After practicing vocabulary and shopping dialogues in class, students headed to the Queen Victoria Market where they got to put their new skills to the test — buying small souvenirs and interacting with local market sellers. The day wrapped up with some relaxation time and games at Flagstaff Gardens, where the students enjoyed the crisp Melbourne winter sun and played together outdoors.
🔬 Saturday, 2nd August 2025: Scienceworks
We ended the week with a trip to Scienceworks, one of Melbourne’s most exciting interactive museums. Students explored hands-on exhibits related to space, electricity, sports science, and the human body. They tested their speed in the sports zone, got curious about how machines work, and learned all about astronomy in the Planetarium. It was the perfect mix of learning, fun, and science exploration to wrap up Week 3.
✅ That’s a wrap on Week 3!
From creative filmmaking to science, games, and market adventures, this week gave students a dynamic mix of classroom learning and real-world experiences. We can’t wait to see what Week 4 will bring as we study and explore more of Melbourne!
