Brisbane Holiday English

Brisbane Holiday English Course for Juniors (JHP)

Week 3 of the Junior Holiday Program (JHP) at BROWNS Brisbane was full of global learning, teamwork, and real-world adventures! As students grew more confident in their English, they explored new grammar, vocabulary, and cultural topics in a fun and supportive environment. Let’s take a look at the highlights from another exciting week:

Monday, July 28 – Flags, Facts & the Brisbane Tournament
Students began the week by writing about their countries — sharing details about food, transport, weather, and traditions. They played a “Guess the Flag” game to test their world knowledge and learn the names of different countries in English.

In the afternoon, it was time to mingle. The “Brisbane Tournament” challenged students to work in teams, rotate through fun games in different rooms, and practice cooperation and communication skills in English.

Tuesday, July 29 – Shopping Vocabulary & Queen Street Mall
The day’s topic was shopping. Students learned new vocabulary related to clothes, prices, and stores, and read a text about consumer habits. A comprehension activity followed to reinforce their reading skills.
In the afternoon, the learning went live as students visited Queen Street Mall. With shopping lists in hand, they practiced real-life English conversations while browsing souvenirs, snacks, and gifts.

Wednesday, July 30 – Life Experiences & Aussie Sweets
Grammar was the focus on Wednesday morning. Students practiced the present perfect tense by talking about life experiences, from travel to trying new foods.

In the afternoon, it was time to bake! Guided by recipes, students cooked classic Australian sweets, measuring ingredients, following instructions, and tasting their creations — all while using English to collaborate in the kitchen.

Thursday, July 31 – Transport, Inventions & SparkLab
Thursday morning was all about movement and innovation. Students discussed transportation systems around the world and shared their opinions on inventions that made life easier — such as airplanes, bicycles, and Uber — using descriptive and comparative language.

In the afternoon, the adventure continued at SparkLab, a hands-on science and technology space designed for curious young minds. Students explored 40+ interactive exhibits, watched live experiments at the Science Bar, and collaborated in the Maker Space. It was a chance to think like scientists — asking questions, building, observing, and discovering how the world works.

Friday, August 1 – Friendship, Grammar & Fun in the Park
Friday’s lessons focused on active and passive voice, as well as second conditional structures — all within the theme of friendship and making weekend plans. Students practiced how to express hopes, invitations, and possibilities.
The week ended with an energetic afternoon at Southport Broadwater Parklands. With space to run, play, and laugh, students participated in team games and movement-based activities that let them unwind and enjoy the sunshine together.

Saturday, August 2 – Movie World Magic
Week 3 ended with a thrilling adventure at Warner Bros. Movie World! Students explored the brand-new Wizard of Oz area, braved roller coasters, and took photos with their favourite characters. From exciting rides to delicious theme park treats, it was a day packed with laughter, fun, and unforgettable memories — the perfect way to wrap up a week of learning and joy.

Week 3 Summary
This week brought a perfect balance of grammar, creativity, movement, and discovery. From shopping adventures to science experiments and a theme park finale, our students had the chance to apply their English in fun and meaningful ways. We’re so proud of their progress and can’t wait to see what’s next in Week 4.
