Urban Xtreme and More: Week 5 of JHP in Brisbane
Week 5 at the Junior Holiday Program in Brisbane brought a vibrant mix of technology, culture, creativity, and wildlife encounters. Students developed their English skills through engaging lessons, hands-on activities, and exciting excursions — all while making new memories with friends from around the world.
Monday, August 11 – Technology & Content Creation Challenge
We began the week exploring the world of technology. Morning lessons covered advancements in tech, social media platforms, online safety, and media literacy, sparking thoughtful discussions on how technology shapes our daily lives.
In the afternoon, students put their skills into action with a Content Creation Challenge. From snapping photos with staff members to capturing the iconic BROWNS sign, the tasks encouraged teamwork, creativity, and communication in English.
Tuesday, August 12 – Aussie Etiquette & Mini Golf
Morning lessons introduced students to the unique etiquette and lifestyle of Australians — from friendly greetings to the relaxed Aussie pace of life.
The afternoon took a playful turn with a round of mini golf. Laughter filled the course as students competed in friendly matches, using English to celebrate their victories (and laugh off the occasional missed shot!).
Thursday, August 14 – Aussie Slang & Urban Xtreme Adventure
Thursday morning was all about language and culture. Students learned popular Australian slang and idioms, practicing them in conversations and roleplays.
In the afternoon, the group headed to Urban Xtreme for an action-packed adventure. From challenging ninja race courses to high-energy laser tag, it was the perfect way to combine fitness, fun, and friendship.
Friday, August 15 – Queensland Tourism & Recycled Fashion Show
As the week neared its end, students reflected on the incredible places they had visited in Queensland and learned more about the state’s tourism highlights.
In the afternoon, creativity took centre stage with a Recycled Fashion Show. Using repurposed materials, students designed and modelled imaginative outfits — a colourful and eco-friendly celebration of style and teamwork.
Saturday, August 16 – Australia Zoo
The week concluded with an unforgettable full-day trip to Australia Zoo. Students hand-fed kangaroos, admired sleepy koalas, marvelled at the tallest giraffe in the world, and learned about the inspiring conservation work of Aussie icon Steve Irwin. It was the perfect finale to a week of learning, adventure, and cultural discovery.
This week blended modern learning with classic Australian experiences — from media literacy workshops to mini golf, from slang lessons to wildlife encounters. Students strengthened their English, expanded their cultural understanding, and built lifelong memories with friends from across the globe.
