Fun and Learning in Brisbane

The Junior Holiday Program was a week of fun and learning in Brisbane last week. From exploring Australian culture and history to participating in fun-filled challenges and outdoor adventures, students had the opportunity to practice their English skills while making new friends from around the world. Each day was thoughtfully designed to enhance language learning through interactive lessons and real-world experiences. Here’s a recap the week:

Monday, 13th January 2025:
On the first day of BROWNSJunior Holiday Program, the students started by introducing themselves, getting to know each other and talking about their countries. They drew their names and presented themselves to the class. They learned about Australian geography and history and played interactive games that encouraged interaction and teamwork. The class engaged in discussions where students asked questions about Australia and discovered more about it.

In the afternoon, we played trivia games, allowing students to test their skills in class. They were divided into two groups to play quiz games that stimulated their vocabulary. After that, they prepared for a musical chairs quiz about Australia. When a student couldn’t find a seat, they had to answer a question related to Australia. If they answered correctly, they could continue playing; if not, they were eliminated. The last three players received prizes.

Tuesday, 14th January 2025:
Today, students practiced their knowledge related to classrooms and schools. They shared information about their schools and subjects in their home countries. They played “Find Someone Who,” which helped them learn more about each other and practice their knowledge of school-related topics. We reviewed grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation related to the theme, and students answered questions based on their knowledge. They also practiced their listening skills by completing song lyrics based on what they heard.

In the afternoon, we visited Holey Moley Golf Club, where students had fun playing mini-golf and bonding with their classmates. Everyone enjoyed the activity, which went beyond language learning by encouraging teamwork and introducing new game-related vocabulary.

Wednesday, 15th January 2025:
Midweek, the students participated in various activities about family and relatives. They expanded their vocabulary related to family and physical characteristics by describing their family members. They drew their family members and, by the end of the class, created their own family trees.

In the afternoon, we prepared cakes with cream and biscuits. Students learned and practiced food and recipe-related vocabulary. We made the cakes together and left them in the fridge overnight to enjoy the following day.

Thursday, 16th January 2025:
Thursday was dedicated to daily routines, and students participated in various activities related to the theme. They created their daily routine charts and compared their routines in their home countries to those in Australia.

In the afternoon, we went on an exciting trip to Happy Pops in South Bank, travelling across the river on the ferry. On the way back to school, we enjoyed the scenic views of Brisbane’s iconic landmarks. Everyone had fun exploring the city while practicing their English.

Friday, 17th January 2025:
Today, as planned, we discussed sports and related activities in a relaxed and engaging way. Students had fun while practicing vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. The classroom topics were carefully selected to ensure students could use the target language in everyday life, particularly for the afternoon activity.

In the afternoon, the students visited the City Botanic Gardens, where they participated in various interactive games and activities that enhanced their teamwork and sportsmanship. They enjoyed exploring the gardens and observing the local wildlife.

Saturday, 18th January 2025:
The day was filled with excitement and joy as students headed to Sea World on the Gold Coast. They enjoyed the company of their friends and classmates while exploring the park, observing birds and Australian wildlife, going on rides, and experiencing all that the park had to offer.

This special week was filled with new friendships, valuable learning experiences related to daily life, and a deeper understanding of Australia and each other’s cultures. The multicultural environment allowed students to practice their English while learning about different cultures. Join us again next week as we welcome more students into the program and go on more adventures.
