Australia's biggest theme park

The Brisbane Primary Holiday Program kicked off with an exciting week of learning, creativity, and adventure. Our young learners explored Australian geography, cooked traditional treats, practiced greetings, and expressed themselves through art. From fun classroom activities to exciting excursions like souvenir shopping in the city and a thrilling trip to Australia’s biggest theme park, Dreamworld, each day was filled with opportunities to learn, connect, and make unforgettable memories. Here’s a look back at the highlights from this action-packed week.

Monday, 3rd February 2025:

Monday started with the new student’s reception and introducing classmates. We explored Australian geography. We found it on the map and demonstrated it’s both a country and a continent. We learned fun facts: Australia has kangaroos, koalas, and the platypus. The Outback is a vast, dry land. The Great Barrier Reef is the biggest coral reef, and it is here, in Queensland. Canberra is the capital, but Sydney is the largest city. To wrap up, we painted an Australian map.

In the afternoon, we did the exciting activity of cooking lamingtons. The students had the opportunity to prepare their own snack, with chocolate and jam.

Tuesday, 4th February 2025:

This Tuesday, we had a wonderful time learning about happiness and greetings. We met up with classmates, shared stories, and talked about what makes us happy. ️We did fun activities and practiced different ways to greet each other in a friendly way, practicing our vocabulary and grammar. We also discussed how small gestures, like a smile or a kind word, can brighten someone’s day. To end the lesson, we wrote postcards to our friends, sharing kind messages and happy thoughts.

During the afternoon activity, we went to Funhouse where we had so much fun playing together. At the end we got some prizes from the ticket’s vouchers.

Wednesday, 5th February 2025:

This Wednesday, we learned all about transportation and different ways to travel. We practiced new vocabulary, talking about cars, buses, bikes, boats, and even hot air balloons and rockets.

In the afternoon, we watched a fun video about Aboriginal dot painting and its cultural importance. Then, we got creative and made our own dot paintings, using bright colours and patterns just like the traditional artwork. It was a fantastic day of learning and creativity, exploring how people move around and express themselves through art.

Thursday, 6th February 2025:

This Thursday, we talked about social media in a fun and safe way by focusing on how we describe ourselves and our emotions. We learned new words to express how we feel: Happy, excited, curious, and even a little shy sometimes.

In the afternoon, we went souvenir shopping in Brisbane’s CBD at Queen Street Mall. ️ We looked at different items, practiced asking questions politely, and picked out small souvenirs to remember Australia. It was a wonderful day of self-expression, learning new vocabulary, and exploring the city.

Friday, 7th February 2025:

This Friday, we talked about food tastes and how to describe them. We focused on writing and learning new vocabulary to describe different flavours—sweet, sour, salty, and spicy. We also discussed healthy eating habits and how to enjoy balanced meals.

In the afternoon, we took a ferry to Kangaroo Point. We had a picnic, played in the playground, and enjoyed the beautiful views. We also took pictures, danced to some music, and played ball games together. It was a fantastic day of learning, fun, and adventure with friends.

Saturday, 8th February 2025:

This Saturday, we had an amazing trip to Australia’s biggest theme park, Dreamworld on the Gold Coast. We explored thrilling rides, saw amazing animals, and enjoyed lots of fun activities with friends. Some of us braved the rollercoasters, while others loved the animals’ interactions and meeting Dreamworld’s animal residents.

At lunchtime, we sat together and enjoyed a delicious meal, sharing our favourite moments so far. Later in the day, we cooled down with some tasty ice cream. Before heading back, we stopped by the souvenir shop to pick out special gifts to remember the day. From plush koalas to fun keychains, everyone found something special.

This week was an incredible journey filled with learning, fun, and new experiences. From exploring emotions and transportation to exciting adventures and delicious food, we made unforgettable memories together. We’ll see you next week for the recap of our final week in Brisbane’s January-February Junior Holiday Program.
