Study and explore Brisbane with PSP+ at BROWNS

Week 3 of BROWNS English Language School’s Junior Holiday Program, PSP+ class (7-11 years old) was all about shopping and money — and our young learners brought curiosity and creativity to every activity. Through hands-on lessons, real-world vocabulary, and fun excursions, students explored how we buy, sell, save, and spend — while continuing to grow their confidence in English.

Monday, July 28 – Money Maths & Brisbane Tournament

The week began with a maths-focused morning on money. Students learned to identify Australian coins and notes and practiced pronunciation. They then played a memory game, matching numeric values with written amounts (e.g. “2 AUD” and “two dollars”) — a fun way to reinforce both math and language skills.

In the afternoon, students joined the Brisbane Tournament, rotating through different activity rooms in teams to build social connections and practice English in an energetic setting.

Tuesday, July 29 – Renewable Energy & SparkLab

Tuesday’s science lesson focused on energy. Students discovered the difference between renewable and non-renewable sources, learning about sun, wind, and fossil fuels through interactive sorting and discussion.

In the afternoon, students visited SparkLab, an interactive science space designed to ignite young minds. They explored exhibits, watched live demonstrations at the Science Bar, and collaborated on challenges in the Maker Space — using English to investigate, question, and create.

Wednesday, July 30 – Then & Now: Shopping & Cooking

During their geography lesson, students explored how shopping has changed over time — from old-fashioned markets to modern supermarkets, and how inventions like refrigerators transformed the way we buy and store food.

This discussion connected directly to an engaging cooking activity in the afternoon, where students learned related vocabulary, followed simple steps in English, and tasted the results of their teamwork.

Thursday, July 31 – Writing About Shops & City Hall Adventure

Thursday’s writing activity had students describe what shopping is like in their own towns. They talked about the types of shops they visit, what they can buy there, and where they like to go.

In the afternoon, they ventured into Brisbane’s City Hall to visit the Clock Tower and the “Precious” exhibition — featuring personal collections from Queenslanders. A scavenger hunt made the experience interactive, encouraging observation and conversation in English.

Friday, August 1 – Designing Shops & Park Games

To wrap up the academic week, students designed their own shops! They drew signs, selected products, and practiced explaining their ideas to others using complete English sentences like “My shop sells books” or “I sell fruit and toys.”

In the afternoon, students celebrated their hard work with outdoor playtime in the park — running, laughing, and enjoying the sunshine with their new friends.

Saturday, August 2 – Movie World Magic

The week ended with a special Saturday adventure at Warner Bros. Movie World! Students explored the brand-new Wizard of Oz area, rode age-appropriate attractions, and had the chance to meet their favourite characters. From exciting shows to delicious theme park treats, it was a day full of wonder, smiles, and unforgettable memories — the perfect reward after a week of learning and growth.

Week 3 Summary

This week brought language to life through the theme of shopping and money. Whether identifying coins, designing shops, or enjoying Movie World magic, students used English in meaningful and fun ways — building vocabulary and confidence each day. We’re so proud of their progress and can’t wait for more adventures in Week 4.
