Australia Zoo and More: Week 5 of PSP+ in Brisbane
Week 5 of BROWNS English Language School’s Primary School Preparation Plus (PSP+) program was packed with rhythm, creativity, and discovery. Under the theme “Make Some Noise”, students explored the science of sound, practiced new music and clothing vocabulary, and got hands-on with art, maths, and eco-friendly design. Each day offered opportunities to build English skills in fun, real-world contexts — from mini golf and ninja races to the wild wonders of Australia Zoo.
Monday, August 11 – Music, Patterns & Design Challenge
The week started with colourful creativity in maths, as students explored repeating and growing patterns, making their own vibrant designs and describing them in English.
In the afternoon, friendly competition took centre stage in a Design Competition, where students worked together to create and present imaginative projects, practising teamwork and communication.
Tuesday, August 12 – The Science of Sound & Mini Golf
Science lessons revealed the fascinating journey of sound. Using musical instruments, students discovered how vibrations travel through air particles to our ears, becoming electrical signals that our brains interpret as sound.
The afternoon’s mini golf excursion was both fun and educational, giving students a chance to use English in a relaxed, playful setting while cheering on their classmates.
Thursday, August 14 – Music Vocabulary & Urban Xtreme
Thursday morning focused on building vocabulary for musical instruments and the many sounds we can make. Through listening, reading, and speaking activities, students practiced pronunciation and used their new words in creative sentences.
The afternoon brought high-energy excitement at Urban Xtreme, where students tested their agility on ninja race courses and played rounds of laser tag, learning new action verbs along the way.
Friday, August 15 – Future Plans & Recycled Fashion Show
Friday’s grammar focus was be + going to for expressing future plans and intentions. Students practiced talking and writing about what they were “going to” do on the weekend and what people were “going to” wear in different scenarios.
The afternoon featured our much-anticipated Recycled Fashion Show, where students designed and modelled unique outfits made from repurposed materials. The runway came alive with colour, creativity, and confident English presentations.
Saturday, August 16 – Australia Zoo Adventure
The week ended with a full-day trip to the world-famous Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast. Students hand-fed kangaroos, spotted sleepy koalas, met the tallest giraffe in the world, and explored fascinating animal exhibits. Along the way, they learned about wildlife conservation and the inspiring legacy of Steve Irwin. It was the perfect combination of education, excitement, and close-up encounters with Australia’s most iconic animals.
From discovering how sound travels to strutting the runway in eco-friendly fashion, Week 5 offered an inspiring blend of classroom learning, hands-on creativity, and memorable excursions. With experiences like Urban Xtreme, mini golf, and a day at Australia Zoo, our young learners strengthened their English skills, expanded their knowledge, and — most importantly — had plenty of fun along the way.
