BROWNS PSP+

A Week of Fun and Learning at BROWNS PSP+ Holiday Program

Monday, 14 July 2025:

During the first week of our July-August 2025 Junior Holiday Program (PSP+), we welcomed lots of new faces to BROWNS English Language School (BROWNS). With students divided into three exciting class groups, we kicked off the morning by getting to know each other and diving into English. Each class focused on a different theme to start the week: Books, Computers, or Art. Students shared their favourite stories, digital hobbies, and creative inspirations as a way to learn new vocabulary and practice speaking in English.

Later in the morning, we tackled some Maths in English, applying our problem-solving and number skills in real-world scenarios- such as perimeters of shapes. In the afternoon, all classes came together for a buzzing “Escape the Classroom” challenge, themed around bees! With teamwork and logic, students cracked codes and raced against the clock to free themselves. Afterwards, we relaxed with some creative bee crafts, designing colourful hives and adorable bee characters to decorate our classrooms.

Tuesday, 15 July 2025:

This morning’s English lesson had us brushing up on grammar, helping everyone feel more confident using verbs, adjectives, and sentence structure. Then it was time to get hands-on with science experiments.

Some students learned all about colour theory by creating their own colour wheels, while others explored sustainability by making their own paper from recycled materials. The room was full of excitement and curiosity as we observed reactions, mixed colours, and asked scientific questions—all while practicing English.

In the afternoon, we went on a virtual and real-life adventure! First, we tried VR headsets to experience incredible locations around the world. Then we visited the Melbourne Sky Deck, where we took in stunning views of the city from above—it truly felt like we were on top of the world.

Wednesday, 16 July 2025:

Today we continued expanding our vocabulary and speaking and had the opportunity to explore health and social studies the morning, we learned how to use a compass and practiced giving directions in English. And explored town and city vocabulary. Our students also got to practice their phonics – from syllables to letter clusters we practiced all the skills to be truly great readers.

In the afternoon, we became one big BROWNS team as we began designing classroom murals. Each student drew a selfie or picture to represent them, and the drawings came together to form one giant piece of art shared between all Primary School Preparation (PSP) classes. It was wonderful to see our ideas blend into a beautiful, collaborative work.

Thursday, 17 July 2025:

Thursday was full of pencils. In the morning, we practiced writing skills, with some classes writing about their school and others crafting their own stories. Everyone shared their ideas and developed their writing style using English in fun and imaginative ways.

We also focused on listening and speaking, with students enjoying read-alouds, listening to stories in English, and discussing their favourite characters and books. It was great to hear so many different opinions and ideas.

In the afternoon, we headed to the bowling alley for some friendly competition. There were plenty of high scores, laughter, and cheers—it was the perfect way to end a creative day.

Friday, 18 July 2025:

Today, we wrapped up our weekly themes by working on some exciting final projects. Students chose to create either a map of our school, a class book, or a class flag, putting together everything they’d learned and shared throughout the week. It was a proud moment to see everyone’s hard work come to life in such creative ways.

In the afternoon, we celebrated by heading out to ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image). We explored interactive exhibits, played with film and animation displays, and learned more about Australia’s rich screen culture.

Saturday, 19 July 2025:

To finish the week, we visited SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium. Everyone loved watching the stingrays, sharks, turtles, and penguins swim by. We loved seeing all the jellyfish lazily swimming in their tank and debating if they had brains or not. We learned new animal vocabulary, spotted colourful coral reefs, and completed an activity book all about sea creatures.

It was the perfect balance of fun and learning to end a fantastic week.

What a wonderful week it’s been in BROWNS PSP+! Whether it was writing stories, building science experiments, drawing murals, or exploring Melbourne’s best attractions, our students had so many opportunities to learn, create, and grow. We can’t wait to see what next week brings at BROWNS English Language School.
