Experience International Student Life in BROWNS’ Brisbane Junior Holiday Program
This third week of our July-August Junior Holiday Program was packed with engaging activities, hands-on learning, and exciting excursions, making it an unforgettable experience for our students.
Exploring Indigenous Art
Students began the week by delving into the rich culture of Indigenous Australian art. They learned about Aboriginal traditions, expanding their vocabulary through interactive group activities and discussions. The highlight was a hands-on dot painting activity, where students used traditional techniques to create vibrant pieces of art inspired by Aboriginal culture. This creative session not only fostered artistic expression but also deepened their appreciation for Australia’s Indigenous heritage.
Daily Routines & Brisbane Adventures
In their English lessons, students explored the theme of daily routines, discussing and comparing their habits from home with their experiences in Australia. These lessons were paired with a thrilling excursion to the Wheel of Brisbane, where students enjoyed panoramic views of the city and explored the vibrant South Bank area. The outing offered a perfect blend of learning and fun, with students capturing memorable moments and enjoying the lively atmosphere.
Music & Movement
Music and rhythm took centre stage as students engaged in interactive lessons about musical instruments and genres. They shared their favourite songs and artists, sparking lively discussions and building connections through shared interests. The excitement continued with a dynamic street dance class, where students learned new moves in an energetic and supportive environment. This activity was a hit, as students embraced the opportunity to express themselves through dance and rhythm.
Shopping & Practical Experiences
Students also delved into the world of shopping, exploring vocabulary related to everyday purchases and discussing wise spending habits. To apply their newfound knowledge, they embarked on a practical shopping excursion, visiting local stores and engaging in a variety of shopping-related activities. A visit to the arcade added an extra layer of fun, with students eagerly participating in games and challenges. This hands-on experience was both educational and enjoyable, providing a real-world context to their classroom learning.
Financial Literacy & Celebrations
Financial literacy was a key focus this week, with students learning about money management through interactive games and discussions. They explored money-related vocabulary and practised using it in real-life scenarios. The week concluded with a celebratory class party, where students were recognized for their achievements and participation. The party was a joyous occasion, filled with snacks, movies, and heartfelt farewells to friends heading home, leaving everyone with a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie.
Weekend Excursions
The week ended with an exciting weekend excursion to Movie World on the Gold Coast, where students enjoyed thrilling rides, explored the parks, and experienced the best of Australian entertainment. These outings provided a perfect balance of relaxation and adventure, allowing students to unwind and enjoy the company of their peers in a fun and engaging setting.
Overall, Week 3 of the Junior Holiday Program was a blend of learning, creativity, and adventure, leaving students with lasting memories and new skills.
