Paradise Country and More: Week 5 of JHP on the Gold Coast
Week 5 of BROWNS’ Junior Holiday Program (JHP) on the Gold Coast was packed with language learning, cultural discovery, and exciting activities. Students had the chance to practise English in fun and creative ways, while also experiencing unique aspects of Australian life.
Monday
The week began with lessons on Australian culture and colloquial language. Students learned about everyday expressions unique to Australia and enjoyed trying them out in conversations. In the afternoon, they teamed up for a lively photo and video scavenger hunt challenge, capturing creative shots around the area while practising their English in real-life contexts.
Tuesday
On Tuesday, the focus was on weather. Lessons included practising conversations about different weather conditions, an essential skill for daily life. The afternoon was a highlight of the week: students rode the famous Aquaduck, a bus that turns into a boat. They were thrilled to take turns driving it on the water.
Wednesday
In Wednesday’s lessons, students worked on a video project about their dream homes. This involved practising furniture vocabulary, prepositions, and descriptive adjectives, all while getting creative with their ideas. In the afternoon, the class made traditional Australian treats including chocolate spiders and ripple cakes — a delicious way to learn about culture.
Thursday
Thursday morning continued the dream home video project, as students finalised and shared their ideas. In the afternoon, they took part in tennis coaching at Queens Park Tennis Centre, enjoying the chance to practise serves, rallies, and teamwork while staying active outdoors.
Friday
Friday morning’s lesson brought everything together in a wrap-up session. Students played fun vocabulary games, took part in a quiz, and reflected on the language they had learned during the week. In the afternoon, they celebrated with a class party and Domino’s pizza, a perfect ending to a busy and rewarding week.
Saturday
The program concluded with a trip to Paradise Country farm. Students loved meeting Australian animals up close, rounding off their experience with a memorable and cultural highlight.
This final week was a wonderful mix of learning, creativity, and adventure. Students not only improved their English but also experienced Australian culture through excursions, food, and activities. As the program comes to a close, we celebrate all that they have achieved and the special memories they will take home.
