Our March 2025 Gold Coast Junior Holiday Program (JHP) was an incredible week filled with learning, laughter, and adventure. From exploring Australian culture and wildlife in the classroom to thrilling excursions like arcade games, shopping in Surfers Paradise, and an unforgettable day at Movie World, our students made the most of every moment. With new friendships formed and plenty of English practice along the way, it was a week to remember. Let’s take a look back at the highlights!
Monday, 24th March 2025:
The students’ first day of class was really exciting! We got the opportunity to learn more about each other and also about our teacher, we were shown some interesting facts about Australia and learned about its geography, main cities and attractions, native animals and Aussie slang. In the afternoon we played trivia and competed to win typical Australian prizes, such as koalas and chocolate.
Tuesday, 25th March 2025:
Today’s topic was In the Classroom. Students shared their prior knowledge of classroom vocabulary and we expanded this to include functional language: actions and asking questions. Students enjoyed games where teams had to express an accurate action or question first to win points.
The class went to the Archie Brothers Arcade in Surfers Paradise. Students had great fun navigating the arcade together; playing some sports, driving simulators and games-of-chance. We concluded the activity with students enjoying and sharing their prizes.
Wednesday, 26th March 2025:
This morning’s topic was Australian Animals. Students participated in activities to identify and sort out animals and animal types; doing individual readings on some native Australian animals including Platypus, koalas, kangaroos, emus, dingoes and kookaburras; making fact files; and sharing knowledge in an information gap activity.
Thursday, 27th March 2025:
Today students joined the High School Preparation (HSP) class so we started off with some icebreakers and getting to know each other. Today’s topic was Holidays and Tourism, so they learned vocabulary to talk about the different types of holidays to take. They then brainstormed some famous places they might go to on holiday. Students practiced forming and answering questions about how they like to holiday. They then engaged in a speaking activity with other students and shared their thoughts with each other.
In the afternoon the class learned how to play the card game Spoons. They then went souvenir shopping in Surfers Paradise. Students had a fantastic time looking around and buying souvenirs to bring back home. It was great to see the students laughing and practicing their English with one another.
Friday, 28th March 2025:
Today the class explored facts about Australia and Aussie slang. The class started with Kahoot-trivia on Australia; followed by watching videos to learn more facts; then pair work to test each other and researched to investigate more about Australian geography, demographics and culture; finally, students used their knowledge to compete against the other team.
The afternoon’s activity was a class party. Students played together in a range of games they’d enjoyed during the week; as well as some party classics, such as Musical Chairs, Twister and Jenga. The class had pizza to conclude their hard work in the week.
Saturday, 29th March 2025:
Saturday’s excursion was full of fun and excitment. We started the day with a competitive game of Uno Flip before heading to the theme park Movie World which was a great opportunity for students to practise English and meet other Junior Holiday Program students from Brisbane.
At Movie World, students experienced the most thrilling rollercoasters and rides together. This time, their favourite ride was The Joker (DC Rivals HyperCoaster) which they described as THRILLING!!!
On our way back, we enjoyed a chat and said our farewells to the students who were returning home on Sunday.
As we say goodbye to our March 2025 Gold Coast Junior Holiday Program, we celebrate the friendships, memories, and learning experiences that made this program so special. From exciting excursions to hands-on classroom activities, our students embraced every moment with enthusiasm. While this chapter comes to a close, we’re already looking forward to welcoming new students for our next Junior Holiday Program in July-August. Stay tuned for more unforgettable experiences ahead!
