Learn English in Melbourne: Week 2 of Our Junior Holiday Program

Week 2 of our July–August 2025 Junior Holiday Program in Melbourne was packed with flavour, adventure, culture, and unforgettable wildlife encounters. Students immersed themselves in language learning through fun and engaging topics while also experiencing some of Melbourne’s best hands-on activities. Here’s a day-by-day recap of our week:

Monday, 21st July 2025: Food Tastes & Lamington Making

We kicked off the week by diving into the delicious world of food. The focus was on speaking skills, so we began with group discussions about favourite meals from around the world and tasted some Aussie snack foods while learning vocabulary to describe flavours and textures.

In the afternoon, it was time to get baking. Students learned how to make one of Australia’s most iconic treats — the lamington. Covered in chocolate and coconut, they were a huge hit. It was the perfect blend of learning, speaking, and sweet rewards.

Tuesday, 22nd July 2025: Climbing, Sports & Vocabulary Building

Tuesday’s theme was “Climbing and Sports”, and students practiced reading and vocabulary related to fitness, competition, and adventure. We discussed different kinds of sports from around the world, including extreme ones like bouldering and rock climbing.

In the afternoon, we brought the vocabulary to life by visiting an indoor climbing centre. Everyone challenged themselves and cheered on their classmates — it was all about team spirit, courage, and fun.

Wednesday, 23rd July 2025: Dreaming Stories & Indigenous Art

Wednesday was dedicated to learning about Australian Aboriginal Dreaming Stories. Students practiced listening skills as they explored these rich and meaningful tales, learning about the origins of the land, animals, and people through First Nations storytelling.

In the afternoon, students took part in an Indigenous art workshop, learning traditional painting techniques and symbols. Each student created their own unique piece to take home — a meaningful way to reflect on the stories and traditions they had learned.

Thursday, 24th July 2025: Movie Day – How to Train Your Dragon

Thursday’s theme was Movies, with a focus on vocabulary and speaking. We kicked off class with film-related vocabulary, sharing favourite films and describing memorable scenes using new language.

But the real highlight? We rented out an entire cinema just for our students! Everyone got comfy with popcorn to watch How to Train Your Dragon on the big screen. It was a magical experience and a big highlight of the week.

Friday, 25th July 2025: Australian Animals & Wildlife Encounter

Friday’s theme was Australian Animals, with a focus on reading and speaking. We read short articles and shared facts about some of Australia’s most incredible creatures, including reptiles, marsupials, and birds.

In the afternoon, things got wild! Snake Man visited the school — and he didn’t come alone. Students got the chance to safely handle frogs, lizards, snakes, and even a crocodile. It was an amazing way to learn about these creatures up close and ask all their curious questions.

Saturday, 26th July 2025: Melbourne Zoo Excursion

To wrap up an action-packed week, we spent Saturday exploring the Melbourne Zoo. Students wandered through lush trails and got to see elephants, lions, native Australian species, and more. It was a chance to see some of the animals we had learned about throughout the week, and a wonderful way to finish off our week of discovery.

From lamingtons to lizards, climbing walls to Dreaming stories, Week 2 was full of laughter, learning, and new friendships. We can’t wait to see what next week brings as the journey continues and we welcome even more students to learn English in Melbourne.
