Study English in Melbourne with BROWNS Junior Holiday Program

Last week, we concluded our 5-week Junior Holiday Program in Melbourne, and now we’re excited to share a look back at the incredible experiences and unforgettable memories we’ve made together. Each week has been packed with exciting activities, engaging lessons, and new friendships. From exploring the vibrant city of Melbourne to hands-on learning in the classroom, our students have grown in confidence and English proficiency, all while having a lot of fun. Here’s a recap of our final week.

Monday, 12th August 2024
We kicked off the week with a deep dive into things to do around Melbourne. Our morning was filled with engaging discussions on must-see attractions, both those we have visited and those we want to visit in the future. Using this knowledge, we channelled our creativity into designing our very own theme parks. Students put their imaginations to the test, creating exciting rides, themed areas, and snack stands. To wrap up the day, we tested our knowledge with a fun quiz.

Tuesday was all about daily routines. We compared our routines across different countries, learning new vocabulary related to daily activities and discussing how routines can vary. After a lively class discussion, we geared up for an action-packed afternoon at Laser Tag. The competitive spirit was high as everyone enjoyed an exciting and energetic game, filled with strategy and laughter.

Our focus on Wednesday was sports. We explored a range of unusual sports from around the world, discussing their rules and origins. The day was both educational and active, as we took our sports knowledge to Flagstaff Gardens for some hands-on fun. We played football together, all while enjoying the beautiful park setting with some Melbourne sunshine.

Thursday’s lesson revolved around learning more about scientific concepts—particularly the life cycle of a frog. We started by learning about each stage in the frog’s development, from egg to tadpole to adult frog. In the afternoon, we visited the Science Gallery to see interactive exhibits and further explore scientific concepts. It was a day of discovery and hands-on learning, and we all enjoyed seeing our science concepts from the classroom come together with real-world science at the gallery.

Our Friday session was all about reflecting on our past experiences and using English to talk about them. We shared memorable moments from our time at the BROWNS Junior Holiday Program and discussed what we’ve learned and enjoyed. The highlight of the day was a photo scavenger hunt at Queen Victoria Market, where we had to find and photograph specific items while sampling delicious local food. It was a fantastic way to celebrate our week, enjoy great food, and create lasting memories.

We wrapped up our week with a fantastic visit to Legoland Melbourne. We loved seeing the huge Lego creations, exciting rides, and interactive play areas. It was a perfect ending to our week, exploring new attractions together and picking our favourites. We all enjoyed the 4D exhibitions and spending our last day together with some lovely sunshine.

As we wrap up this fantastic journey, we look back with pride at how much our students have learned and experienced over the past five weeks. The Junior Holiday Program in Melbourne has been an incredible opportunity for cultural exchange, skill development, and making lifelong memories. While this chapter comes to an end, we are already looking forward to welcoming new students to our next Junior Holiday Program in January-February 2025. Until then, we wish all our students the best in their continued learning journeys and hope to see many familiar faces in the future.
