Melbourne Holiday English Course for Juniors (JHP)
As Week 3 of our July–August 2025 Junior Holiday Program (JHP) rolled in, our Melbourne students were ready for another week full of language learning, creativity, and unforgettable adventures. With a new set of themes including music, money, games, and technology, each day brought something new to explore — from arcade battles to scientific discoveries!
Sunday, 27th July 2025: Arrival Day
Our new students arrived in Melbourne and spent the day settling in with their host families, getting to know their new homes, and preparing for a fun-filled week ahead. It was a calm and welcoming start to what would become a very exciting week.
Monday, 28th July 2025: Music & Make a Movie Challenge
The theme for Monday was Music, and the focus was on listening and speaking. After orientation and a morning of interactive English lessons, students were introduced to music-related vocabulary and discussed their favourite songs and artists.
In the afternoon, creativity took centre stage with a Make a Movie Challenge. Students worked in teams to plan, act, and film their own short music-themed scenes. It was a high-energy afternoon filled with laughter, drama, and lots of behind-the-scenes fun.
Tuesday, 29th July 2025: Money & Arcade Adventures
Tuesday’s topic was Money, with a focus on listening and reading. Students learned about budgeting, shopping, and different currencies through interactive reading activities and classroom games.
The real excitement came after lunch — we hit the arcade. Students competed in air hockey, racing games, and claw machines. It was a great way to use some of the money-related vocabulary they’d learned in class while having a blast.
Wednesday, 30th July 2025: Games & “Minute to Win It”
Wednesday’s topic was all about Games, and the focus was on speaking. Students discussed different types of games from around the world and participated in roleplays and storytelling activities to build confidence in speaking.
Afterwards, it was time for the Minute to Win It Challenge — a fast-paced set of team games where students had just 60 seconds to complete wacky tasks. From stacking cups to balancing acts, everyone joined in the friendly competition and had so much fun cheering each other on.
Thursday, 31st July 2025: Technology & Art Gallery Visit
Thursday’s topic was Technology, with a focus on writing. Students imagined future inventions, practiced giving instructions, and explored vocabulary around digital tools and communication. It was an inspiring day of writing and sharing ideas about the future.
In the afternoon, we slowed things down with a peaceful visit to an Art Gallery. Students explored local and international exhibits, reflecting on the art and connecting it to their morning discussions about innovation and creativity.
Friday, 1st August 2025: Shopping & Real-World English
The theme for Friday was Shopping, focusing on vocabulary and speaking. Students practiced dialogues about buying clothes, asking for prices, and comparing items. We played interactive games to build confidence in real-life speaking situations.
And then… we went shopping for real! Students got the chance to explore a local shopping centre where they could use their new skills to chat, browse, and even buy a little souvenir or two. A perfect way to put their learning into action!
Saturday, 2nd August 2025: Scienceworks Adventure
We wrapped up Week 3 with an exciting full-day trip to Scienceworks — one of Melbourne’s most interactive and engaging science museums. Students arrived bright and early and spent the day exploring hands-on exhibits, testing their reaction time in the sports lab, and experiencing the magic of science in a whole new way. It was a day of discovery, learning, and endless curiosity.
Week 3 was all about using language in real-world ways while having the time of our lives – We made movies and mastering shopping skills! We can’t wait to welcome our students back for another week of creativity, connection, and cultural discovery. Stay tuned for more adventures in Week 4!
