Week 2: A Fun-Filled Week at Our English School in Brisbane
Week 2 of the Junior Holiday Program (JHP & PSP+) at BROWNS Brisbane brought another round of fun, learning, and discovery. From nature to numbers, reptiles to landmarks, our youngest learners dove headfirst into new knowledge while practising English in meaningful and engaging ways. With hearts full of curiosity and minds ready to explore, these students are showing that learning can be both exciting and empowering. Let’s take a look at the highlights.
Monday, July 21 – Math & Reptile Encounter
Our week began with a Math lesson tailored to each level. The younger children practiced counting and number recognition, while the older group explored fractions in English — a fun and engaging way to build confidence with numbers.
In the afternoon, students had a thrilling Wild Rangers reptile encounter. From holding snakes to seeing crocodiles (baby ones!) up close, the experience was more than just exciting — it was educational. Students learned important lessons about respecting the wild animals that share Australia’s environment with us.
Tuesday, July 22 – Plant Life & Indigenous Art
The day’s theme focused on plants and nature. Students learned about the life cycle and parts of plants, expanding their vocabulary and understanding of how flora grows.
They also discovered how Australia’s First Nations people deeply respect and connect with the land. In the afternoon, students expressed this learning by recreating Indigenous-inspired artwork — a colourful celebration of culture, care, and creativity.
Wednesday, July 23 – Geography & Lamington Cooking Class
Wednesday’s classroom buzzed with geographical discoveries. Students explored famous landmarks around the world, such as the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty, using maps, videos, and discussion activities to practice English while travelling the globe.
In the afternoon, they took a delicious turn with a cooking class. The spotlight was on lamingtons, a beloved Australian treat. Students followed English instructions to measure, mix, and decorate their very own lamingtons — with plenty of smiles along the way.
Thursday, July 24 – Creative Writing & Arcade Fun
Imagination ran wild in the morning as students wrote creative stories featuring the landmarks they had studied. Pretending they were visiting these iconic sites, they described their adventures in English, reinforcing descriptive language and storytelling skills.
In the afternoon, it was time for games and giggles at the local arcade. From claw machines to racing games, students used English to share, celebrate, and win many exciting prizes.
Friday, July 25 – Nature Review & Botanical Garden Treasure Hunt
To round off the week’s nature theme, students reviewed vocabulary and key concepts about the Earth, ecosystems, and caring for the planet.
Later, they explored the beautiful Brisbane Botanic Gardens in an adventurous treasure hunt. Using maps and clues in English, they worked in teams to discover hidden treasures while connecting with nature in a fun and active way.
