G’day again! Week 1 of our 2026 Junior Holiday Program was full of energy, creativity and exciting moments. Let’s take a look at what we did this week!
MONDAY:
The topic for the day was “Australian Geography,” so we began with a class discussion about famous landmarks and locations across Australia. We then worked together as a class to create our own maps, labeling the different states, capitals, and iconic sites we had learned about.
The afternoon concluded with the “Aussie Olympics,” where students competed in teams through a series of fun Australian-themed competitions. It was a fantastic way to practice teamwork while celebrating Aussie culture, ending with some delicious prizes for our athletes. It was an enriching and high-energy start to the week!
TUESDAY:
In class today, students learned about the beach. They learned useful words and expressions connected to the sea, sand, weather as well as beach activities.
After lunch, students visited Skypoint (Q1) – the tallest building in Queensland. They enjoyed the amazing view and took loads of photos. Then they took a walk along the beach, played frisbee and enjoyed the fresh air. It was a memorable afternoon and a great opportunity to experience the Gold Coast lifestyle.
WEDNESDAY:
Queensland tourism was the focus for lessons. Students learned how to describe places, activities and attractions using clear and interesting language. They wrote short texts about tourist destinations and shared their work with the class. They also watched a short video made by the Australian government about tourism all over Australia and discussed it using the new vocabulary.
The afternoon activity was a class art project. Students worked together and showed their creativity creating a mural all about Australia. They included Australian animals and tourist attractions, Aussie sports and foods and things that represent Indigenous culture. It’s up on the classroom wall and new students will have the opportunity to add to it over the coming weeks.
THURSDAY:
Today students talked about their hometowns. They described where they are from and showed photos. They also shared what they like about their cities, and what makes them special. This activity helped to practise speaking fluency while learning more about their classmates’ cultures and backgrounds.
Later, the group visited the Hyjinx Hotel. Students had a fun time competing against each other in fast paced challenge rooms. They shared laughs, took photos, and continued practising English naturally while socialising. So much fun!
FRIDAY:
Today’s class focused on reading about Australian animals, in preparation for our Saturday excursion to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Students learned interesting facts about native wildlife and practised reading comprehension skills. They discussed the animals in groups and shared what they found most surprising or interesting.
In the afternoon, we went to the Broadwater Parklands and played ball games in the park. They enjoyed running around, playing as a team, and spending time outdoors with their friends. The atmosphere was fun and positive, and the students finished the week feeling happy and connected.
SATURDAY:
Today was a fantastic day at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. They were very excited to see animals up close and take pics. They also had the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about them. We saw so many different animals such as koalas, kangaroos, wombats and Tasmanian devils and had the opportunity to watch an Indigenous musical performance.
The weather was perfect and the students shared great moments together and created unforgettable memories and experienced Australian nature in a unique way.
CONCLUSION
Another amazing week has come to an end, and we’re so proud of everything our students have learned and experienced.
