Study and explore Melbourne with PSP+

Week 1 of the Primary School Preparation + Activities Program (PSP+) was a positive and engaging start to our students’ learning journey in Australia. The week focused on helping students settle into a classroom routine, build confidence in English, and experience Melbourne through carefully planned activities. Here’s a snapshot of our first week:

🏅 Monday: Australian Olympics

Class topic: Australian Culture, Sports & Speaking
PSP+ students began the program by learning about Australian sports and Olympic events. Through team-based games and mini challenges, students practised key vocabulary related to movement, rules, and cooperation. Teachers supported students in using clear spoken English while encouraging teamwork and positive communication.

🌆 Tuesday: Skydeck & VR Tour

Class topic: Describing Places, Listening & Speaking
In class, students learned language for describing places, views, and directions. This was followed by a visit to the Melbourne Skydeck, where students applied their new language to describe the city skyline and their VR experience. It was an excellent opportunity to use English in a real-world context.

🎨 Wednesday: Art Projects

Class topic: Creativity, Vocabulary & Writing
Students explored creativity through guided art projects. They learned vocabulary for colours, shapes, and materials and followed instructions to complete their artwork. Students then wrote and shared short sentences describing their creations, building confidence in both speaking and writing.

🎳 Thursday: Bowling

Class topic: Instructions, Speaking & Teamwork
Bowling day encouraged students to use functional English, such as giving instructions, taking turns, and offering encouragement. The activity promoted social interaction and helped students practise everyday English in a relaxed environment.

🎬 Friday: ACMI Visit

Class topic: Media, Technology & Listening
Students visited ACMI to explore digital media, film, and storytelling. Classroom preparation focused on relevant vocabulary and listening skills, which students then applied while interacting with exhibits and sharing opinions.

🌿 Saturday: Day Trip to Bush Rangers

The week concluded with an outdoor excursion to Bush Rangers. Students learned about the Australian environment, safety, and teamwork while enjoying nature-based activities. It was a rewarding way to end the first week of PSP+.

✅ That’s a wrap on Week 1!

Week 1 provided PSP+ students with a strong foundation for learning, communication, and cultural exploration. We look forward to seeing their confidence and independence grow in the weeks ahead.
