Junior Holiday Program (JHP) 
Week 2: 19–23 January 

The second week of the Junior Holiday Program (JHP) was full of language learning, creativity, and fun activities. Students practised English through games, reading, writing, speaking, and hands-on experiences. Here is what our JHP students did during the last week: 

🍽️ Monday: Food & Aussie Cooking 
On Monday, students started with a Find someone who warmer to practise speaking and get to know each other better. They then completed an Alphabet food brainstorm and learned new vocabulary focused on food adjectives

Students practised their reading skills with a text about brussel sprouts and watched a YouTube video about the most hated foods in the world. After that, they worked with a Recipe worksheet and practised writing by making their own recipes!  

The day finished with Aussie Cooking, where students used English in a fun and practical way. 

🎯 Tuesday: Hobbies & Free Time 
On Tuesday, students completed a Hobbies brainstorm and learned grammar for leisure activity verbs

Students practised speaking by asking their partners questions and writing sentences about what they learned. They also played Never have I ever to practise speaking and listening. 
Later, students learned vocabulary for expressing likes and dislikes and practised speaking with their partners. 
The afternoon activity was Indoor Climbing, where students used social English and supported each other. 

🌈 Wednesday: Dreamtime Stories & Aboriginal Australia 
Wednesday focused on Dreamtime Stories and Aboriginal Australia. Students started with Contexto and an Aussie Slang match around the room. They learned about Aboriginal Melbourne and completed two reading activities: Aboriginal Weapons and Aboriginal Instruments, with pre-taught vocabulary and partner worksheets. 

Students then learned about the Rainbow Serpent and Dreamtime, watched the Rainbow Serpent video, and worked with Tiddalik the Frog. Activities included a running dictation for vocabulary and putting the story in order. 
The day ended with Indigenous Inspired Art

🏒 Thursday: Sports 
On Thursday, students began with fun Sports charades. They learned about common sports equipment vocabulary

Students practised speaking through a partner drawing activity and worked on writing by putting sports sentences in order. They also played Sport or not?, designed their own sport projects, presented them to the class, and voted on the best one. 
The afternoon activity was Ice Skating

🎬 Friday: Movies 
Friday’s theme was movies. Students started with Find someone who (movies) and learned movie vocabulary. They completed a movie cloze worksheet and played the Password game using new vocabulary. 

Students pre-taught vocabulary for the video Snack Attack and practised writing by making notes about the plot while watching. They then worked with a Learn English Teens worksheet on writing a movie review and wrote their own reviews. 
The week finished with a movie session – SpongeBob!

This week of HSP gave students many opportunities to practise English through reading, writing, speaking, and real-life activities.
