Monday, 2 February 2026  – Storytelling Through Indigenous Art

We began the week by exploring how stories can be told without words. Through an Indigenous art listening exercise and educational video, students learned how symbols, colours, and patterns communicate meaning across generations.

Discussions around iconography and traditional landscape colours encouraged students to listen carefully, ask questions, and reflect on perspectives different from their own. As students painted canvases and designed bookmarks or fridge magnets, they practised describing their artwork, explaining symbols, and sharing stories with peers—building language skills through creativity and cultural respect.

Tuesday, 3 February 2026  – Language in Action: Games and Teamwork

Tuesday took learning outdoors at Roma Street Parklands, where language became a tool for collaboration. Students worked in small groups to complete team-building relays such as three-legged races, egg-and-spoon challenges, balloon games, and hula-hoop activities.

Clear communication, encouragement, and cooperation were essential. Students used language naturally to give instructions, solve problems, and support one another, reinforcing the importance of communication in shared experiences.

Wednesday, 4 February 2026  – Recycled Fashion and Creative Expression

Creativity took centre stage with the BROWNS Recycled Fashion Show. Students chose a category, designed a fashion piece using recycled materials, and practised their runway walk.

From brainstorming ideas to presenting final designs, students used language authentically—explaining concepts, giving feedback, and celebrating creativity. The fashion show highlighted how self-expression and communication connect culture, sustainability, and confidence.

Thursday, 5 February 2026  – Play, Place, and Everyday Language

A visit to the Southbank Water Play Park brought learning into a real-world environment. Through shared play, students used everyday language to organise games, share equipment, and look out for one another.

Being in a popular Australian public space allowed students to observe local routines and interactions, helping them connect language learning with daily life and community culture.

Friday, 6 February 2026  – Shared Experiences and Reflection

Friday focused on reflection and connection, giving students time to talk about the week’s experiences, revisit favourite moments, and prepare for the weekend excursion.

Through group discussions and informal conversations, students practised retelling events, expressing opinions, and listening to different perspectives—strengthening both language skills and friendships.

Saturday, 7 February 2026  – Movie World: Language Beyond the Classroom

The week concluded with a full-day excursion to Movie World, offering students an exciting opportunity to experience a major Australian attraction together.

Throughout the day, students used language in authentic ways—reading signs, following instructions, planning rides, and sharing reactions. By the end of the trip, students were confidently retelling stories and reflecting on the week, turning shared experiences into meaningful language learning.
