Heroes, Helpers, and Hands-On Discovery!
Week 6 in the PSP and PSP+ programs was all about rescue workers, emergencies, and natural disasters. Students explored English through real-world topics of safety, teamwork, and community helpers, building confidence while learning in dynamic and engaging ways. Here’s a snapshot of our week:
🚒 Monday: Welcome & Introduction to Rescue Workers
We welcomed new students with introductions and worked together to get to know each other, helping everyone feel part of the community while practising speaking and communication skills. The week’s theme — rescue workers and emergencies — was introduced, setting the stage for an exciting week of discovery.
In Indoor Play, students enjoyed memory games, charades, and describing games to practice English speaking, listening, and confidence in a fun, relaxed environment.
In Maths, students explored probability through presentations, looking at the meaning of key words such as ‘impossible’, ‘certain’, ‘likely’, and ‘unlikely’. They then created posters categorising different events by their likelihood — connecting mathematical language with real-world thinking.
In Info Comm, students learned about when to call 000, building essential life skills and safety awareness through English communication.
The day concluded with a creative tote bag painting activity, where students expressed themselves artistically while practising descriptive language.
🏥 Tuesday: Healthy Bodies & Helping Hands
Tuesday began with vocabulary introduction focusing on the week’s core topic, followed by reading and listening activities, building on the rescue workers theme. Students engaged with new words and concepts related to emergencies and community helpers.
In PE, students warmed up, followed instructions in English, and worked as a team through coordination and teamwork-building activities, reinforcing language through active play.
In Science, natural disasters took centre stage. Students watched presentations, completed worksheets, and explored the different types of natural disasters and their effects on nature — combining scientific knowledge with English literacy skills.
In Reading, students worked through textbook readings on rescue workers, developing comprehension and vocabulary around the people who keep us safe.
The day concluded with a fantastic dance class, where students followed instructions, built confidence, and had a blast moving together!
🌋 Wednesday: Volcanos & Community Heroes
Wednesday began with new vocabulary and listening activities, followed by work on relative clauses using ‘who’. Extension students completed extra grammar worksheets, strengthening their sentence-building skills.
In Art, students got creative by building their very own papier-mâché volcanos! This exciting hands-on project combined crafting skills with the week’s natural disaster theme — with an explosive surprise to come later in the week!
In HASS, students explored the topic of people who help us. They learned about different jobs that contribute to society and completed worksheets reflecting on what they would like to do when they’re older — developing both comprehension and aspirational thinking.
The day concluded with Phonics, where students practised the ‘str’ sound through word practice, quizzes, worksheets, and even writing their own stories, making learning interactive and fun.
Students then headed outdoors for sports in the park, enjoying fresh air and active play to round out a busy day.
📖 Thursday: Animal Rescue & Storytelling
Thursday began with more work on relative clauses, this time focusing on ‘that’, reinforcing grammar and sentence structure skills.
In Educational Videos, students watched fascinating content about animal rescue and how vets help animals in need — sparking discussion and building listening comprehension skills.
In Writing, students practised punctuation skills before diving into story writing, developing their ability to compose structured and creative texts.
The highlight of the day was Speaking and Listening, where students read a story together and then re-wrote it using picture prompts, bringing narratives to life through oral communication and creative writing.
The day wrapped up with an exciting excursion to ArtVo, where students explored the immersive art experience and had a wonderful time together!
🌋 Friday: Eruptions, Celebrations & Fun!
Friday began with writing practice and spelling practice, celebrating the week’s learning achievements.
The explosive highlight of the week arrived as students painted their papier-mâché volcanos and then used bicarbonate of soda and vinegar to make them erupt with lava! Students practised instructional language, followed directions, and explored basic science concepts — all while watching their creations come to life.
The week finished on a high note with a class party, where students celebrated their hard work, friendships, and an incredible week of learning together!
✅ That’s a wrap on Week 6!
Week 6 was filled with heroes, creativity, and fantastic teamwork. Through emergency safety lessons, papier-mâché volcanos, community helper explorations, storytelling, and hands-on science experiments, students continued to develop their English language skills while having fun and learning together. We’re so proud of their curiosity, creativity, and collaborative spirit! 🌟
