Wheel of Brisbane and More: Week 4 of PSP+ in Brisbane
Week 4 of the Primary School Preparation (PSP+) program in Brisbane combined hands-on learning with exciting excursions, giving our youngest learners new ways to explore English through maths, science, arts, and outdoor fun. Each day built language skills in meaningful contexts — from geometry to kayaking — while keeping the week full of smiles and discovery.
Monday, August 4 – Geometry & Movie Fun
The week began with a maths focus on geometry, where students learned to identify shapes, count sides, and talk about angles in English.
In the afternoon, it was time for a cosy movie-and-popcorn session with Minions. Students laughed, relaxed, and picked up new English expressions from the film.
Tuesday, August 5 – Light, Shadows & Paper Planes
Tuesday’s science lesson explored light, shadows, and how colours are formed. Students experimented with different objects to see how they cast shadows and reflected colours.
In the afternoon, the focus turned to creativity and aerodynamics as students designed and tested their own paper airplanes.
Wednesday, August 6 – Schools: Past & Present & the Wheel of Brisbane
Morning activities built vocabulary for comparing schools in the past and present — from uniforms and classroom tools to technology and teaching styles.
In the afternoon, the group visited The Wheel of Brisbane, an iconic landmark in South Bank, taking in panoramic views and describing the cityscape using new words they had learned.
Thursday, August 7 – Theatre Vocabulary & Aussie Picnic
Students practiced past continuous grammar through reading and listening activities themed around theatre and performance. They learned how to describe what people were doing at different moments on stage.
The afternoon brought a picnic at the park with classic Aussie treats — Anzac biscuits, fairy bread, and Vegemite on crackers — all enjoyed under Brisbane’s sunny skies.
Friday, August 8 – Computers & Bowling
Friday’s focus was on technology skills. Students learned how to type on a keyboard and compared related vocabulary such as “screen,” “mouse,” and “keyboard” in English.
In the afternoon, they enjoyed friendly competition at the bowling alley, practicing conversation while cheering each other on.
Saturday, August 9 – Riverlife Adventure
The week wrapped up with a thrilling day at Riverlife, where students experienced kayaking, abseiling, and laser tag. Using their new adjectives, they described the day as wet, fun, and “the best day ever!” — a perfect way to connect with Brisbane’s outdoor lifestyle.
From classroom learning to outdoor adventures, Week 4 gave students the chance to practice English in exciting, real-world settings. Whether experimenting with shadows, tasting Aussie treats, or paddling along the river, our young learners expanded their vocabulary, improved their confidence, and had plenty of fun along the way. We can’t wait for next week.
