Hospitality Workshop

Free Hospitality Workshop for International Students in Australia.

We are excited to share the success of our recent Hospitality Workshop, which took place at BROWNS English Language School‘s Brisbane and Gold Coast campuses. This free workshop was specifically designed to assist our students in seeking employment opportunities while studying.

The workshop began with a comprehensive overview of the essential information required to secure employment in Australia. We provided insights into topics such as obtaining a Tax File Number (TFN) and understanding the minimum wage. Additionally, we explained the concept of an Australian Business Number (ABN) and explored the different licenses pertinent to various industries, including RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol), Police checks, blue cards, and white cards.

To help students develop their professional profiles, we offered guidance on writing effective resumes and cover letters. We emphasized the importance of showcasing relevant skills and experiences to make a lasting impression on potential employers. Furthermore, we shared valuable interview tips to prepare our students for successful job interviews. Additionally, we provided a comprehensive list of resources to help them find suitable job opportunities, ensuring they have access to a diverse range of options.

The workshop focused on two key industries: hospitality and cleaning. Within the hospitality sector, we explored various roles, including baristas, front-of-house staff, food runners, waiters/waitresses, bartenders, dishwashers, kitchen hands, and cooks/chefs. We showcased examples of basic hospitality uniforms and recommended affordable stores where students can purchase them. Additionally, we conducted practical sessions where students learned useful skills for hospitality jobs, such as carrying three plates and efficiently handling trays of drinks.

Furthermore, we delved into the details of cleaning jobs, highlighting different roles available, including housekeeping, office cleaning, school cleaning, and bond cleaning. We introduced students to cleaning-specific vocabulary and explained the significance of color-coded cleaning practices. By familiarizing our students with these industry-specific details, we aim to enhance their employability and broaden their employment opportunities.

Due to the success of this event, we will be offering this monthly, free to all BROWNS students.
